Pietro Michelucci is a Visiting Scientist at Cornell University and the Director of the Human Computation Institute, USA, a multidisciplinary innovation centre that develops crowd-powered systems to address societal problems. His work in human computation includes acting as Editor-in-Chief of the 2013 Springer Handbook of Human Computation, and as Founding Editor of the journal Human Computation. He led the Human Computation Roadmap Summit, a three-day workshop in 2014 towards a national initiative for human computation. In 2015 he launched the Stall Catchers online game to accelerate Alzheimer's research, followed by Dream Catchers in 2019 to tackle Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Having experienced first-hand the hardships of keeping citizen science projects afloat, Pietro has recently undertaken an initiative called "Civium" to improve sustainability for all stakeholders.
